Foundation for Noble Work
Usaha Mulia Foundation or better known as Yum is a legal entity foundation that was originally formed from a mobile medical clinic for the poor and disadvantaged. Founded by three social workers from abroad namely Wilbert Verheyen, Rina Ruigrok and Ibrohim Wessels who are members of the Subud organization, as well as with the great support from Mr. Muhammad Subuh and the Subud organization, YUM was finally inaugurated in 1976. YUM Indonesia also aims to focus on education and health for the impoverished.
Currently, YUM runs holistic and integrated projects in the fields of education, health, and community development, with a total of approximately 18 projects in two regions in Indonesia: Cipanas - Cianjur, West Java and Bukit Batu - Palangkaraya, Central Kalimantan. The two regions were chosen due to the high level of poverty and difficult access to health facilities, education and clean water. Every year YUM provides services to over 15,000 beneficiaries.
YUM is able to run well thanks to the dynamic developments of innovations in adjusting social, economic and environmental conditions. Additionally, the relentless staff and continual support from various partners, both in the form of funding and capacity building assistance and knowledge transfer for YUM staff, also help tremendously in each project.
Even so, YUM's biggest challenge to date has been the sustainability of the project concerning funding. So far, 60-70% of funding for YUM projects still is supported by donors, especially those from abroad. On the other hand, to get donors who can support YUM projects, especially in the long term ( more than 1 year), is far from easy. This is worsened by the fact that Indonesia is currently no longer seen as a priority scale by foreign donors due to its significant economic growth.
To overcome these problems, YUM pioneered several social businesses, such as organic agriculture, ecotourism, educational tourism, and merchandise, the profits of which are directed to fund social projects from YUM. But to this day, the amount has not been able to cover the overall needs of YUM's social projects. For this reason, YUM also tries to invite companies in Indonesia to start moving together, especially through their CSR activities, in overcoming social, economic and environmental problems in Indonesia.
YUM also acknowledges the good opportunity and accepts the collaboration with Yuna and Co. In line with their vision and mission, Yuna's Box of Hope is a program that is not just about collecting or raising funds from the community, but also works as a means to inform Yuna& Co consumers about the good work of YUM for others. To help those in need, the opportunity to actively take part in YUM is always open.
